Some History

  • 1920 – Garden Fete held to raise funds to build a Village Hall
  • 1921 – An old Army hut was purchased and erected on a piece of land close to the Church. The opening ceremony was held on Easter Monday, 28th March
  • 1926 – A gent’s cloakroom was built onto the north east side of the building
  • 1927 – The local school began to use the Hall for the purpose of Children’s physical exercise
  • 1931 – The Conservative Association was charged 10/- to hold a whist drive, on condition that no political speeches were made
  • 1932 – The Men’s Club asked permission to have boxing in the Hall. The Football Club was granted the use of the gent’s dressing room for the season’s matches. A Young Men’s Club was formed
  • 1937 – The Brockford Players gave £10 to make a concrete path from the Hall front door to the school yard gate. With money left over 2 stoves were installed
  • 1938 – Electric lighting was installed
  • 1939 – Evacuees were using the Hall for school lessons. The Hall was also being used for school Children’s dinners
  • 1940 – The Army, stationed at The Manor, were using the Hall most evenings, with the Home Guard using it on a Wednesday
  • 1959 – Consent was given for flush toilets were installed
  • 1960 – Village Hall funds were falling very low and a push was made encourage more people to become involved and to raise more money
  • 1964 – A Summer Fete was held with a Beauty competition and helicopter rides! The money raised made it possible for a new floor and additions to the stage to be obtained
  • 1968 – Electric heating was installed. A Drawing Match, Fete and Social was also held, making a profit of £89.10s.1d – just under £2,000 in today’s money
  • 1969 – The Women’s Institute requested washing facilities be installed in the ladies toilets, a wash basis was fitted by March the following year
  • 1982 – A facelift for the Hall was underway with various money raising efforts being arranged
  • 1983 – 2016 – we have a little bit of a gap during this period, perhaps if anyone can help with things that happened they can let us know?
  • 2016 – Consideration was being given to a brand new Village Hall – a Village Fete raised £1,800 towards the project. Curtains Up! and a Yoga Group were now using the Hall on a regular basis
  • 2018 – A call for volunteer helpers to help with the new Village Hall project was made, however there were no responses
  • 2021 – The Hall suffered substantial damage when a tree fell on the roof. Given the internal refurbishment and the roof replacement, a decision was made to repair and maintain the existing Hall rather than proceed with the building of a new Village Hall. The South wall was replaced together with the majority of the Hall floor and a wooden patio was built
  • 2022 – A Jubilee Tea Party was held on the Village Hall Meadow
  • 2023 – Consideration was being given to a Friday evening bar in the Hall. A Postcode was allocated to the Hall, enabling WiFi to be installed
  • 2024 – Solar Panels were installed on the Hall’s roof
  • 2025 – A very successful Summer Solstice event was held, it is hoped that this will become an annual event
